Grand Strand Junior Women's Club presents

CASA with $18,700 check

North Myrtle Beach, SC - The Grand Strand Junior Women's Club (GSJWC) is a civic, non-profit organization that was founded in 2001.  Members share a common goal: a sincere dedication to community improvement through volunteerism.  Members offer their time, talent and resources to raise money and awareness for local charities and global issues.

As part of their efforts to raise money for Citizens Against Spousal Abuse (CASA) the GSJWC rose $18,700 at their annual “Victory Over Violence” basket and silent auction, held at Crocodile Rocks on Saturday, April 19th, 2008.  All of the proceeds will benefit CASA and help pay for a full time counselor in the North Myrtle Beach, Longs and Little River areas.

Societies have made important gains in addressing the problem of domestic violence, particularly in the area of service delivery to its victims.  Our club answered the need for a full time counselor in our area by raising money through our annual auction.” said Jill Moore, president GSJWC.

CASA always needs both male and female volunteers to assist in eliminating family violence from our community. Here are a few ways in which you can help: Volunteer to answer the 24 hour crisis line, transport victims staying at the safe home, clerical and office support, public relations, advocacy for victims going to court and shelter repairs and maintenance.  Donations are always needed, such as: furniture and food, personal care items and clothes, monetary contributions appreciated, paper products and cleaning supplies.

Would you like to be part of the GSJWC?  They hold meetings on the 3rd Tuesday of each month.  Social time begins at 6:30 pm and the meeting begins at 7:00 pm.  There are guest speakers or activities that relate to the months theme and the meeting is usually adjourned by 8:15 pm.  Meetings are held at area restaurants where you can order from the menu.  It is more than just an evening out; it’s a chance to make a difference in your community!  Meetings will resume in September 2008.
